Description: In 2003, *Tears of the Sun* portrays the chaos in Nigeria after a military coup led by General Mustafa Yakubu, resulting in the assassination of President Samuel Azuka and his family. The conflict stems from ethnic tensions between the Fulani Muslims in the north and the Christian Ibo in the south. As foreigners flee the country, Lieutenant A.K. Waters (Bruce Willis) and his U.S. Navy SEAL team are tasked with rescuing Dr. Lena Fiore Kendricks (Monica Bellucci), a U.S. citizen married to the late Dr. John Kendricks, who was killed by rebels in Sierra Leone.
Their secondary mission is to evacuate a priest and two nuns if they agree to leave. Waters finds Kendricks, warning her that rebels are advancing toward her hospital. Despite orders to extract only U.S. citizens, Kendricks refuses to abandon her patients. Waters eventually consents to take the able-bodied refugees on a 12-kilometer trek, while the priest and nuns stay behind to care for the wounded.
As the team and refugees depart, they face delays, and the rebels soon close in. Waters eliminates one threat, but Kendricks warns him about the rebels heading to the mission. Determined to complete his mission, Waters presses on. Meanwhile, the rebels reach the mission, killing the priest and remaining occupants despite his pleas for mercy.
This gripping drama highlights the moral dilemmas and harrowing choices faced during a humanitarian crisis.
