**Storyline:**
Late one night on a deserted road, famous actor Armaan Kapoor (played by Vivan Bhatena) loses control of his car while seemingly trying to avoid something, resulting in a crash into the sea. Senior Police Inspector Surjan Singh Shekhawat (Aamir Khan), along with his assistant Devrath Kulkarni (Rajkummar Rao), begins investigating the incident. Surjan’s personal life is in disarray after the recent drowning of his 8-year-old son, Karan, during a family outing. His wife, Roshni (Rani Mukerji), is still grieving, and Surjan is consumed by guilt.
Surjan discovers that on the night of the accident, Armaan was carrying ₹2 million in cash, which is now missing. The money had been handed over to Shashi (Subrat Dutta), a blackmailer and pimp. Three years earlier, Shashi had helped cover up a scandal involving Arhaan and his friend Sanjay (Suhaas Ahuja). After learning of Armaan’s death, Shashi flees with the cash. However, his friend Tehmur (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) starts blackmailing Sanjay, who then orchestrates Shashi’s murder.
Meanwhile, Roshni finds comfort in Frenny Mistry (Shernaz Patel), a medium who claims to be in contact with Karan’s spirit. One night, Surjan is approached by Rosie (Kareena Kapoor), an escort, who offers her services. He declines but asks her to assist as an informant. Later, Surjan discovers letters supposedly from Karan in Roshni’s wardrobe and interrupts her session with Frenny, taking her away. However, Roshni leaves in distress.
The police eventually find Shashi’s body, along with the missing cash and a DVD. The DVD contains incriminating CCTV footage of Armaan and his friends leaving a hotel with a girl. Rosie reveals to Surjan that three years ago, she was picked up by Armaan and his friends, Sanjay and Nikhil, but she doesn’t provide further details. Surjan learns that Nikhil has been brain-dead since the incident three years ago.
