Plot Summary:
In December 1941, near Moscow, Red Army Junior Lieutenant Nikolay Ivushkin is driving a truck with a young private when they are attacked by a German Panzer III tank. Nikolay, trained as an armor officer, skillfully evades the attack. He is then assigned to command a damaged T-34 tank to delay the German advance. With his crew, Nikolay ambushes a German panzer platoon led by Klaus Jäger. Despite destroying six German tanks, Nikolay’s T-34 is disabled in a final duel with Jäger’s tank, resulting in half his crew killed and Nikolay himself captured.
Three years later, in 1944, Jäger, now a high-ranking officer, seeks permission to train Soviet POWs as opponents for the 12th SS Panzer Division Hitlerjugend. Recognized by Jäger, Nikolay is coerced into leading a tank crew. He reluctantly agrees when Jäger threatens to harm Anya, a bilingual Russian prisoner. Nikolay selects three fellow POWs to man a captured T-34/85 tank, convincing them with a secret escape plan.
This gripping war drama showcases bravery, strategy, and the relentless fight for survival during one of history’s most tumultuous periods.
