**Plot Summary:**
Steve, a charismatic ladies’ man, and Dennis, a married father of two, work together as paramedics on the night shift. They are repeatedly called to unusual emergencies involving individuals who are either found dead under bizarre circumstances or are incoherent. These incidents are connected to a new designer drug called *Synchronic*.
During one call, they respond to a domestic abuse case where a sword was used as a weapon, and they notice an ancient sword embedded in the wall. Steve is later tested for HIV and other infections after exposure to a contaminated object. These tests reveal he has cancer in his underdeveloped, non-calcified pineal gland.
Another call involves a burn victim with a completely charred body. Later, they attend to a snake bite from an eastern diamondback rattlesnake, a species not seen in the area for decades.
On a fourth call, they discover a deceased boy and a girl who mentions a missing third person—Brianna, Dennis’s daughter. The next day, Steve learns that Synchronic has been discontinued after purchasing the remaining stock from a local smoke shop.
Soon after, the drug’s creator approaches Steve, revealing that Synchronic alters time perception by affecting the pineal gland. Children, whose pineal glands are not calcified, can fully travel through time, while adults only partially move through time like ghosts.
In a fifth incident, Steve and Dennis respond to a “homeless sword fight,” where Steve reflects on their past aspirations of attending medical school. Meanwhile, Dennis suspects Steve of stealing morphine from their supplies.
