**Storyline:**
Following the mysterious death of a scientist involved in a top-secret bioengineering project, government employee Alice Cable is sent to the swamps as his replacement. Upon arrival, Alice discovers that one of the team’s swamp sensors has malfunctioned. Harry Ritter informs her that her predecessor was killed while attempting to repair it. Charlie shares a rumor about an evil paramilitary leader, Anton Arcane, who plans to disrupt their work. Alice meets Dr. Linda Holland and her brother, lead scientist Dr. Alec Holland, who guides her on a tour of the swamps and encourages her to appreciate their natural beauty.
Later, the team investigates the disappearance of a worker and hears a loud explosion in the laboratory. Linda unveils her breakthrough: a glowing, plant-based concoction with explosive properties. Alec observes that droplets of the formula cause rapid plant growth wherever they land. Suddenly, paramilitary agents raid the lab. A man resembling Ritter steps forward but reveals himself as Arcane. When Linda tries to escape with the formula, Arcane shoots her. Alec grabs the beaker but trips, spilling the chemicals and setting himself on fire. He runs outside and plunges into the swamp to extinguish the flames, triggering a series of explosions.
By morning, Arcane’s men destroy the laboratory and erase all evidence of the team’s work. Alice is captured and nearly drowned in the swamp, but she is rescued by a mysterious green, humanoid creature. Meanwhile, Arcane realizes Alec’s latest notebook is missing. Alice escapes to a nearby gas station and contacts her superiors for help. Ritter claims he was called away from the site before the attack, leaving Alice to uncover the truth about the swamps and the creature that saved her.
