**Storyline:**
Hunter, a young woman from a working-class background, marries Richie, a wealthy man destined to become the CEO of his father’s Manhattan corporation. This union allows Hunter to live a life of luxury in their upstate New York home. However, she feels emotionally trapped and isolated in her marriage, as Richie remains distant and dismissive of her needs.
During a family dinner to celebrate her pregnancy, Hunter attempts to share a story, only to be cut off by her father-in-law, who shifts the conversation to business matters. One day, while alone at home, Hunter impulsively swallows a marble, finding the act thrilling. This leads her to consume other inedible objects, such as thumbtacks, figurines, and batteries.
When Hunter becomes pregnant, an ultrasound reveals an abnormality in her abdomen, prompting emergency surgery to remove the objects lodged in her intestines. She is diagnosed with pica, a psychological disorder causing cravings for non-food items. Richie’s parents arrange for her to see a psychiatrist in the city, where Hunter explains that she enjoys the textures of the objects she swallows.
Richie hires Luay, a Syrian family friend, to watch over Hunter while he is at work. Initially resistant, Hunter eventually opens up about her past in therapy, revealing that she was conceived after her mother was raped by a man her mother met at a bar. Her biological father served time in prison for the crime.
Later, Hunter discovers that Richie has been bribing her psychiatrist to share details of their sessions, further deepening her sense of betrayal and isolation.
