**Storyline:**
Lois Lane and Superman share a romantic relationship, but Lois is frustrated by his refusal to reveal his secret identity. Workers from LexCorp accidentally uncover the spaceship of Doomsday, a genetically-engineered super-soldier programmed to destroy life. Doomsday kills the workers and begins a destructive rampage toward Metropolis, annihilating everything in its path. Superman confronts Doomsday, and a brutal battle ensues across the city. Although Superman emerges victorious, he succumbs to his injuries and dies in Lois’ arms.
Lex Luthor eliminates his assistant, Mercy Graves, to cover up LexCorp’s involvement in Doomsday’s release. The world mourns Superman’s death, and Metropolis erects a memorial in his honor. Superman’s friends cope with the loss in different ways: Jimmy Olsen joins a tabloid newspaper, Perry White turns to alcohol, and Lois, realizing Clark was Superman, seeks comfort from Martha Kent.
In Superman’s absence, crime surges in Metropolis. Toyman takes children hostage using a giant mechanical spider. Lois attempts to rescue them but is attacked by Toyman. Suddenly, Superman emerges from his grave, saves Lois and the children, and apprehends Toyman. However, Superman’s behavior seems altered, and Lois grows suspicious when Martha reveals that Clark hasn’t called home.
The resurrected Superman is revealed to be a clone created by Luthor, who has preserved the original Superman’s body in a tube, unaware that he is still barely alive. Luthor tortures the clone in a lead-lined room. Meanwhile, a robot from the Fortress of Solitude detects Superman’s survival, retrieves his body, and begins healing him.
