**Storyline:**
Before the destruction of Krypton, the criminals General Zod, Ursa, and Non are sentenced to banishment in the Phantom Zone. Years later, the Phantom Zone is shattered near Earth by the shockwave of a hydrogen bomb launched from the planet. The three criminals are freed and discover they possess superpowers due to Earth’s yellow sunlight. After landing on the moon and easily killing a team of astronauts, they set their sights on conquering Earth.
Meanwhile, The Daily Planet sends journalist Clark Kent—who secretly is Superman—and his colleague Lois Lane to investigate events at Niagara Falls. Lois suspects Clark and Superman are the same person after Clark is absent when Superman saves a child from falling. In an attempt to confirm her suspicions, Lois throws herself into the falls, but Clark saves her without revealing his identity. Later, when Clark accidentally places his hand in a lit fireplace without getting burned, Lois uncovers his secret. Clark admits he is Superman and takes her to his Fortress of Solitude in the Arctic. There, he shares his past and declares his love for Lois, expressing his desire to live a normal life with her. With the guidance of his mother Lara’s artificial intelligence, Superman removes his powers by exposing himself to red Kryptonian sunlight, becoming mortal.
As Clark and Lois leave the Arctic and return to civilization, they encounter conflict at a diner where Clark is attacked by a truck driver named Rocky.
Meanwhile, Zod and his allies, now accustomed to Earth, head to the White House and force the President of the United States to surrender the planet during a global broadcast.
