Description: Clark Kent and Lois Lane visit the town of Silsby to cover the story of the world’s deepest oil well. That night, two strange, small, furry, bald-headed creatures emerge from the well, terrifying the elderly night watchman, who dies of fright. When Lois and Clark arrive at the scene, they discover the watchman’s body. While Clark and the foreman search for clues, Lois spots one of the creatures but fails to convince others of what she saw.
The foreman reveals to Clark that the well was shut down due to fears of striking radium instead of oil. He shows Clark glowing ore samples collected during drilling. Meanwhile, the two creatures wander the town, causing panic among the residents because of their eerie appearance and the phosphorescent glow they leave behind.
As fear spreads, a violent mob led by Luke Benson forms, intent on hunting down the “monsters.” Superman intervenes, saving one of the creatures after it’s shot and taking it to the hospital. Another creature escapes back into the well. At the hospital, a doctor insists the injured creature needs surgery to survive. When a nurse refuses to help, Clark steps in to assist.
Benson’s mob arrives at the hospital, demanding the creature, but Superman stands his ground. A shot from the mob nearly hits Lois, prompting Superman to disarm the group and protect the hospital. Soon, three more creatures emerge from the well, armed with a strange device. Benson pursues them alone, escalating the tension.
