Storyline: On her 18th birthday, India Stoker, a highly perceptive young woman, experiences a dramatic shift in her life following the tragic death of her beloved father, Richard, in a car accident. She is left with her emotionally unstable mother, Evelyn. During Richard’s funeral, Evelyn and India meet Charlie, Richard’s charismatic brother, who has spent most of his life traveling the world. India, unaware of Charlie’s existence, is unsettled by his sudden presence. Charlie decides to stay indefinitely to support Evelyn and India, which pleases Evelyn but troubles India.
Shortly after, India observes Charlie arguing with Mrs. McGarrick, the house caretaker, who mysteriously disappears afterward. As Charlie and Evelyn grow closer, India remains distant and wary of him. The arrival of her great aunt Gwendolyn further complicates matters. Gwendolyn expresses surprise at Charlie’s claims of traveling and hints at having serious concerns about him.
Later, Gwendolyn changes hotels out of fear and suspicion but loses her phone. While attempting to call the Stoker household from a payphone, she is confronted and murdered by Charlie. Meanwhile, India discovers Mrs. McGarrick’s body in the freezer, confirming her suspicion that Charlie is a killer.
India’s suppressed aggression surfaces when she stabs a bully at school after he tries to attack her. This incident attracts the attention of another classmate, Whip Taylor. At home, India witnesses Charlie and Evelyn’s growing intimacy, further isolating her.
