Description: In Baltimore, Maryland, Andrea “Andie” West, played by Briana Evigan, follows her passion to become a professional street dancer. After losing her mother to cancer, Andie moves in with her mother’s close friend, Sarah, portrayed by Sonja Sohn. Struggling to fit in and facing challenges at school, Andie finds purpose and joy in her dream of dancing.
Andie trains with a local dance crew called the 410 to compete in an underground event, “The Streets.” However, Sarah, aware of the dangers and criminal activities associated with the crew, fears for Andie’s safety. In an attempt to protect her, Sarah plans to send her to live with her aunt in Texas. Unwilling to leave, Andie runs away.
Tyler Gage, a brotherly figure to Andie played by Channing Tatum, spots her at a dance club called The Dragon. Learning of Sarah’s plans, Tyler explains that Sarah’s intentions are rooted in concern for her safety. He convinces Andie to audition for the Maryland School of the Arts, believing it could positively impact her life as it did for him.
After winning a dance battle against Andie, Tyler accompanies her back home and persuades Sarah to let Andie audition for the school. Reluctantly, Sarah agrees but warns Andie that if she fails to succeed, she will have to move to Texas. Meanwhile, Tyler prepares to tour with Nora Clark, leaving Andie to pursue her dreams.
