Description: After the events of “Invasion,” Johnny Rico is demoted to colonel and assigned to a Martian space station to train new troopers. His squad proves to be ineffective, and Mars’ population shows little interest in the war, as their planet remains untouched by the ongoing bug conflict. Some even advocate withdrawing from the war entirely. This complacency leaves Mars unprepared when the bugs launch a surprise attack.
Unbeknownst to everyone, Sky Marshal Amy Snapp secretly orchestrates a plan to gain power. She intends to destroy Mars while positioning herself as a hero. Aware of a bug nest beneath the planet’s surface, Snapp uses the bug attack to manipulate public opinion and justify her actions. She stages a diversionary fleet assault on the Arachnid Quarantine Zone (AQZ) to distract attention. Simultaneously, she captures General Carl Jenkins and fabricates a narrative claiming the Federation was too preoccupied with the AQZ to save Mars, forcing them to detonate a Q-Bomb.
During the bug attack, Rico and his team survive the initial onslaught and manage to land on Mars. While the Federation focuses on the AQZ, Snapp seizes Jenkins and cuts off communications between Earth and Mars. Before his capture, Jenkins telepathically contacts Carmen Ibanez, urging her to return to Mars. Trusting Jenkins, Carmen redirects her ship. Meanwhile, Rico’s troopers are rescued by a drop ship, but Rico is presumed dead after being left behind.
