Description: Renowned doctor Nilabha Roy (Parambrata) is grappling with personal struggles while treating his elderly patients. Among them is Professor Amitava Sarkar (Soumitra Chatterjee), an Alzheimer’s patient, and his wife, Subha Sarkar (Gargee Roychowdhury), whose lives may guide Nilabha toward a new perspective.
“Sraboner Dhara” may not dazzle with vibrant visuals or striking colors, but it captivates through its poetic narrative, brimming with genuine joys, surreal moments, and profound sorrows. When Nilabha begins treating Professor Sarkar, he finds himself confronting his own life’s unresolved issues. Despite his family’s criticism of his shift from humble beginnings to chasing financial success, Nilabha remains grounded and compassionate.
The film skillfully intertwines Nilabha’s modest upbringing, his ancestral home, and childhood connections—elements he tries to distance himself from. However, the recurring emphasis on his ambition becomes somewhat repetitive in the first half. Through various subplots, the story underscores the ties he wishes to sever, often portraying his loved ones as imposing unnecessary burdens on him. Despite his desire to uplift those around him, they seem determined to hold him back.
While the film avoids overt moral judgments, it subtly leans toward certain perspectives, particularly after the interval. A lingering sense of melancholy and life’s unforeseen challenges permeates the narrative, making “Sraboner Dhara” a reflective and introspective cinematic experience.
