**Storyline:**
During a school trip, high school senior Peter Parker visits a Columbia University genetics lab, where he is bitten by a genetically engineered “super spider” that escaped containment. After returning home, Peter feels unwell. Meanwhile, Norman Osborn, the owner of the scientific corporation Oscorp, experiments with an unstable performance-enhancing chemical to secure a major military contract. The experiment drives him insane, leading him to kill his assistant and steal a glider equipped with a flight suit.
The next morning, Peter discovers significant changes in his body—he is no longer nearsighted, his physique has become more muscular, and he can shoot spiderwebs from his wrists. He also gains heightened reflexes and a sharpened sense of danger. After defeating the school bully, Flash Thompson, in a fight, Peter realizes he has inherited the abilities of the spider that bit him. He tests his new powers by climbing a wall.
Peter’s Uncle Ben, hearing about the altercation with Flash, advises him that “with great power comes great responsibility.” Ignoring this advice, Peter enters a wrestling tournament to earn money for a car, hoping to impress his crush, Mary Jane Watson. Though he wins his first match, the promoter cheats him out of his prize. When a thief robs the promoter’s office, Peter lets him escape as an act of revenge.
Later, Peter learns that Uncle Ben has been killed by a carjacker. Upon confronting the criminal, Peter discovers it’s the same thief he allowed to escape earlier. After disarming the thief, Peter accidentally causes his death. Meanwhile, Norman, now fully consumed by madness, dons advanced Oscorp armor and disrupts a rival company’s experiment, killing several people without remembering the incident.
After graduating, Peter decides to use his powers for good, adopting the identity of the masked superhero Spider-Man to fight crime in the city.
