Description: In December 1991, the British royal family prepares for their Christmas holidays at the Queen’s Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. Among them is Diana, Princess of Wales, whose marriage to Prince Charles is strained due to his affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles. As the staff at Sandringham, led by Major Alistair Gregory, gets ready for the royals’ arrival, Diana wanders the Norfolk countryside, avoiding the estate until she encounters Royal Head Chef Darren McGrady. She reflects that the nearby abandoned Park House was once her childhood home.
Upon arriving on Christmas Eve, Diana receives a cold welcome. Her sons, William and Harry, are excited to see her, but she avoids socializing with the indifferent royal family. Her only ally is Royal Dresser Maggie, who urges her to confront the family while fulfilling her duties. In her bedroom, Diana discovers a book about Anne Boleyn and begins dreaming about her, even hallucinating Boleyn’s presence during a dinner where she imagines destroying a pearl necklace from Charles and consuming the pearls. She starts believing Boleyn’s ghost haunts her as a fellow discarded royal wife.
When Diana attempts to visit her childhood home, she is mistaken for an intruder by royal guards and stopped. On Christmas Day, she attends the service at St Mary Magdalene Church, where she notices Camilla among the crowd and faces invasive press photographers. Diana confronts Charles about her concerns regarding William and Harry’s participation in a pheasant shoot, but he dismisses her worries and advises her to better separate her public and private lives. Meanwhile, Charles arranges for Maggie to be sent to London, spreading rumors that she planted the Boleyn book and criticized Diana’s mental health.
