*Sounds Like Love* (Spanish: *Fuimos canciones*; meaning “We Were Songs”) is a Spanish romantic comedy directed by Juana Macías. The film is based on the 2018 novel duology *Canciones y recuerdos* by Elísabet Benavent and follows the story of Maca, a 30-year-old woman living in Madrid. Maca works as an assistant for a demanding fashion influencer, wasting her potential and struggling to form meaningful relationships.
With the support of her two close friends, Jimena and Adriana, Maca tries to find happiness despite her unfulfilling job. However, her life takes a dramatic turn when her ex-boyfriend, Leo, suddenly reappears. Leo was the man who broke her heart, shattered her self-esteem, and made her lose faith in love. Maca had moved on, but now she must confront the emotions she buried long ago and face the painful memories of what could have been.
The film stars María Valverde and Álex González and was released on Netflix on September 29, 2021. The project was announced in January 2020 during a Spanish original programming conference in Madrid. Filming began on October 5, 2020, in Madrid and Lisbon, and wrapped up by May 2021.
