Description: The 1999 film *Sooryavansham* tells the story of Thakur Bhanupratap Singh, the respected head of the Bharatpur village. Known for his noble principles and dedication to the community, Thakur Bhanupratap is highly revered not only in Bharatpur but also in the surrounding 18 villages. Local authorities and the police often seek his guidance in matters of law.
Thakur Bhanupratap lives in a grand mansion with his wife Sharda, three sons—Karan, Varan, and Heera—and his daughter Urmila. While Karan and Varan are educated professionals—an engineer and a doctor respectively—Heera, the youngest son, is illiterate. As a result, Thakur Bhanupratap despises Heera, treating him like a servant and refusing to involve him in family matters. Despite his father’s disdain, Heera deeply loves and respects his father, striving to be a devoted son.
Heera’s only allies in the household are his mother, Sharda, and his close friend Dharmendra, a servant. The narrative takes a turn when Thakur Bhanupratap arranges the marriage of his daughter Urmila. Before the engagement, the groom’s family visits the mansion. Among them is Radha, the groom’s sister, who is unaware of Heera’s true identity and unknowingly treats him as a servant.
On the day of the engagement, Radha discovers the truth about Heera and is both shocked and moved. Curious about his circumstances, she questions Dharmendra, who reveals Heera’s past. As a child, Heera struggled academically and failed his exams, resulting in harsh punishment from his father. Even when Heera altered his scorecard to show a perfect score, his efforts went unrecognized.
The film explores themes of family, respect, and the struggles of a son seeking his father’s acceptance.
