Description: The 2019 film *Sonchiriya* is set in the rugged ravines of the Chambal River valley. It portrays the lives of dacoits, known as Baaghis (rebels), in 1975. Lacchu, a member of the group, informs them about a dowry involving significant amounts of gold and cash. Under the leadership of Dacoit Maan Singh, alias Dadda, they plan to raid the wedding. However, during the loot, the Special Task Force (STF), led by Inspector Virendra Singh Gujjar, ambushes them, resulting in Dadda’s death. This incident causes a rift within the gang. Lakhna, one of the members, decides to surrender to the police, while Vakil Singh insists on continuing their rebellious way of life.
While on the run, the gang encounters Thakur’s wife, Indumati Tomar, and a young girl named Sonchiriya, also known as Lalli. Indumati reveals that Lalli was raped by a family elder, whom she killed to protect the girl. Now, Indumati is fleeing with Lalli to take her to a hospital, while her family relentlessly pursues her to seek revenge. The Baaghis agree to help Indumati and Lalli.
Later, Indumati’s family catches up and attempts to take Lalli away. Vakil Singh is willing to let her go, but Lakhna opposes the decision. In the ensuing chaos, Indumati’s own child accidentally shoots and kills Vakil’s brother. Lakhna, along with his team, escapes with Indumati and Lalli, while Vakil vows to hunt them down.
It is eventually revealed that Maan Singh orchestrated the dowry raid to save Lacchu’s father, who had been held hostage by Inspector Gujjar. Gujjar had promised to release Lacchu’s father only if the Baaghis were lured into the village, allowing the police to eliminate them all at once and claim a reward from the government.
