Description: In “Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal,” after attaining lesser godhood, Zhang Diaoxian desires more power and takes control of the city of Hu, convincing its inhabitants to worship him. It becomes evident that not all demons in Hell deserve their fate, as many seek redemption rather than harming humanity. However, they are forced to comply to avoid Diaoxian’s fanatical demon-slayers. Zhong Kui, a local scholar, is manipulated by Diaoxian and transformed into a powerful pseudo-demon to more effectively eliminate demons. Diaoxian gains the trust of Hu’s residents and deceives the gods, secretly plotting to steal the Dark Crystal from Hell. With it, he aims to overthrow the pantheon of gods, rewrite reality, and destroy Hell, even if it means erasing the souls of Hu’s innocent.
The current Demon King of the realm nearest to Hu was once one of Diaoxian’s pawns, just like Kui. Betrayed by Diaoxian, the Demon King and his followers were turned into demons and sent to Hell as Diaoxian hid his crimes from the gods. The Demon King seizes an opportunity when the realms align to use the Dark Crystal and expose Diaoxian, seeking redemption for his clan.
Three years earlier, a snow demon named Little Snow encountered a young Kui, intending to seduce him but ended up falling for him instead, losing her vengeful spirit. Heartbroken when Kui declared humans and demons cannot be together, she returned to Hell. Kui later excelled in the imperial exams but was stripped of his honors due to bribery, leading him to take his own life. Diaoxian resurrected Kui, giving him a magical elixir to make him believe he was fully human and alive, masking his hybrid nature.
“Snow Girl and the Dark Crystal” is a tale of ambition, betrayal, and the struggle for redemption, intertwining the fates of gods, demons, and humans in a battle for power and justice.
