Description: Sita Ramam is a 2022 Indian Telugu-language period romantic drama film directed by Hanu Raghavapudi and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema. The film features Dulquer Salmaan, Mrunal Thakur in her Telugu debut, Rashmika Mandanna, and Sumanth. Set in 1964, the story follows Lieutenant Ram, an orphaned army officer stationed at the Kashmir border, who receives anonymous love letters from Sita Mahalakshmi. Determined to find her, Ram embarks on a journey to express his love.
Principal photography began in April 2021 and concluded in April 2022, with filming locations including Hyderabad, Kashmir, and parts of Russia. The film’s music was composed by Vishal Chandrasekhar, with cinematography by P. S. Vinod and Shreyaas Krishna, and editing by Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao. Released theatrically on August 5, 2022, “Sita Ramam” became both a critical and commercial success, earning over ₹80 crore at the box office.
The narrative also explores the dynamics of the time, including the tensions in Kashmir. In 1964, a Pakistani extremist named Mujahideen aims to disrupt the unity between Kashmiri Muslims and Hindus, blaming the Indian Army for their bond. He manipulates Pakistani teenagers, sending them to Kashmir undercover to execute his plans.
In a parallel storyline set in 1985, Afreen, a passionate Pakistani activist based in London, despises everything related to India. She retaliates against an Indian philanthropist, Anand Mehta, by setting his car on fire after he burns Pakistan’s flag. When her university demands an apology, Afreen refuses. Mehta offers her two choices: pay 1 million INR as compensation or face jail. Unwilling to apologize, she returns to Pakistan to seek financial help from her grandfather, Brigadier Tariq of the Pakistan Army.
