**Storyline:**
True crime author Ellison Oswalt relocates with his wife Tracy, son Trevor, and daughter Ashley to a house in the fictional town of Chatford, Pennsylvania. Unbeknownst to his family, Ellison has chosen this home because it was the site of a horrific crime—the murder of the Stevenson family. He plans to use their case as the foundation for his next book, hoping to uncover the truth behind the disappearance of Stephanie, the family’s fifth member, who vanished after the murders.
While exploring the attic, Ellison discovers a box containing a projector, a scorpion, and several Super 8 film reels labeled as home movies. To his shock, the films depict the brutal murders of various families—each family killed in a different manner, such as hanging, drowning, throat-slitting, hit-and-run with a lawnmower, and arson. Every crime is filmed from the perspective of an unseen cameraman. Ellison notices a recurring mysterious symbol and a haunting figure in the footage.
As Ellison investigates further, he examines one of the films on his Mac computer and identifies the location of the throat-slitting murder as St. Louis, Missouri. Researching online, he uncovers a news report from 14 years earlier detailing the Miller family murders. Only their 13-year-old son, Christopher, was missing from the scene.
One night, strange noises lead Ellison back to the attic, where he discovers a king snake hidden in the lid of the film reels. Inside the lid, he finds disturbing childlike drawings depicting the murders, each featuring the ominous figure referred to as “Mr. Boogie.”
