Description: Graham Hess, a former Episcopal priest, lives on a secluded farm in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, with his asthmatic preteen son Morgan and younger daughter Bo. Since the tragic death of his wife Colleen six months ago in a car accident, Graham has lost his faith and left the church. His younger brother Merrill, a former minor-league baseball player who didn’t succeed, has been staying on the farm to support the family.
Strange occurrences begin when large crop circles appear in their cornfield, initially thought to be vandalism. Soon, similar patterns emerge worldwide, believed to be navigational markers. Mysterious lights hover over cities like Mexico, and one night, Graham and Merrill chase a shadowy figure that vanishes into the fields. Graham later sees another figure in the corn and hears eerie clicking noises through Bo’s baby monitor. Meanwhile, in Brazil, an alien is captured on video during a child’s birthday party.
Ray Reddy, the man responsible for Colleen’s death, calls Graham but hangs up. Graham confronts him, and Reddy expresses guilt over the accident and Graham’s loss of faith. Before leaving, Reddy warns Graham about a creature trapped in his pantry. Graham investigates cautiously, using a kitchen knife to check under the door. As he turns to leave, he changes his mind and takes another look, only to be attacked by the alien. Graham defends himself, cutting off the tips of the creature’s fingers with the knife.
