Description: Ellen, a former violinist, receives daily care from Clayton as she adjusts to life without sight. She begins to notice peculiarities in her apartment, such as a window that blocks outside noise and recurring car alarms at 11:02 a.m. Clayton reassures her that everything is normal and even brings her a pet bird, which she mistakenly thinks is green but is actually light blue. One night, Ellen hears a woman in distress. Initially, she believes the sound is coming from her apartment, but she soon realizes it’s coming through the vent. The next day, Ellen decides to invite her neighbor over for tea and leaves a sticky note on the neighbor’s door.
The neighbor, Lana, arrives, and Ellen quickly becomes suspicious of her and her husband. Ellen accuses Lana of lying about her age and is alarmed when she feels stitches on Lana’s face. Lana warns Ellen to trust no one and hastily leaves when her abusive husband arrives in the elevator. Concerned, Ellen contacts Detective Bryce, who sends Officer Neiman to investigate. Bryce informs Ellen that Lana has a history of illness, no stitches, and is indeed 48 years old.
Ellen shares her concerns with Clayton, who begins to show romantic interest in her. Later, while alone in her apartment, Ellen hears the elevator ding and approaches who she believes is Lana. When the person doesn’t respond, Ellen assumes it’s Lana’s husband and retreats. The husband confronts her at her doorstep, calling her paranoid.
