Description: **Shastry Virudh Shastry: A Thought-Provoking Tale of Family Dynamics**
**Storyline:**
“Shastry Virudh Shastry” explores a contemporary issue that resonates with many urban parents: the dependence on grandparents for childcare. The film offers a reflective experience as a child becomes the center of conflict between a father and a grandfather, illuminating the patriarchal dynamics within families and their potential consequences. While the story keeps viewers engaged, the final hour feels prolonged and includes moralistic messages that could have been excluded.
The narrative follows Yaman, who lives with his grandparents, Manohar and Urmila, in Panchgani. His parents, Malhar and Mallika, are focused on their careers in Mumbai and only visit on weekends, primarily connecting through video calls. However, when Malhar receives a job offer in the United States and plans to move with his family, Manohar strongly opposes the idea, leading to a tense custody battle.
This film is a remake of a Bengali movie titled “Posto,” created by the same directing duo. Notably, the legendary actor Soumitra Chatterjee played the grandfather in the original. “Shastry Virudh Shastry” contains many poignant moments that resonate emotionally, including a courtroom scene where the son struggles to witness his father’s interrogation and the child’s desperate call for help when his grandfather collapses after school.
Paresh Rawal shines as the concerned grandfather, skeptical of his son due to his drinking problems and job insecurity. Shiv Panditt and Mimi Chakraborty deliver strong performances as Malhar and Mallika, while Kabir Pahwa brings charm and warmth as Yaman. The highlight, however, is Amruta Subhash, who portrays a sharp lawyer with finesse, delivering a performance that leaves a lasting impression.
