Unlike *Jaws*, which focused on a dramatic character study of three men in a boat with a shark, *Shark Bait* attempts to capture the slasher-style shark attack thrills of *Jaws 2*. However, aiming for this target and actually hitting it are two different things.
The film follows a group of young adults partying on a Mexican beach (filmed in Malta). After a warning from a local with a missing leg, four of them decide to steal two jet skis before heading home. The fifth member, Nat (played by Holly Earl), initially hesitates but eventually joins in. Their fun takes a dangerous turn when reckless stunts lead to an accident, leaving them vulnerable to the lurking great white shark.
*Shark Bait* delivers a mix of suspense and action, though it struggles to match the depth and intensity of its iconic predecessor.
