Description: Baker Dill is a fishing boat captain leading a quiet life on Plymouth Island. Obsessed with catching a giant yellowfin tuna he calls “Justice,” he spends his days guiding fishing tours. One day, his ex-wife Karen seeks him out, pleading for help. She offers him $10 million to kill her abusive husband, Frank, during a planned fishing trip. Torn between his moral compass and his desire to assist Karen, Dill is drawn back into a past he tried to leave behind, only to discover that his reality is not what it seems.
As the story unfolds, it’s revealed that Dill is a character in a computer game created by his son, Patrick. The game is based on Patrick’s father, John Mason, a Marine Corps Captain who died in Iraq in 2006. Patrick crafted the game from memories of his father taking him fishing as a child. When Karen remarried an abusive man, Patrick altered the game’s objective, tasking Dill with killing his stepfather.
Dill gradually realizes he’s an artificial intelligence character in his son’s game. Despite this revelation, he proceeds with the mission to eliminate Frank. Meanwhile, in real life, Patrick confronts his stepfather, stabbing him with his late father’s knife. Frank dies, and Patrick is charged with murder but released into Karen’s custody while awaiting trial. To cope, Patrick designs a new game where he is reunited with his father.
