Genre: Comedy;Drama
Description: The movie “Senior Year” released in 2022 combines various elements of high school comedies, drawing inspiration from classics like “Peggy Sue Got Married” and “Mean Girls.” While it doesn’t bring much originality to the genre, it manages to deliver lighthearted entertainment, largely thanks to the cast’s efforts to elevate the script.
The story follows Stephanie Conway, an Australian immigrant who decides to transform her life on her 14th birthday after years of feeling invisible and friendless. By her senior year, Stephanie becomes the captain of the cheerleading squad, dates the popular boy, Blaine, and is on track to become prom queen. However, her life takes a dramatic turn when a cheerleading stunt goes wrong, leaving her in a coma.
Twenty years later, Stephanie wakes up in her 37-year-old body but with the mindset of a teenager. Determined to complete her unfinished high school journey, she returns to the same school, only to find that much has changed. Her former best friend, Martha, is now the principal, and the current mean girl, Brie, is the daughter of her old rival, Tiffany. Despite the challenges, Stephanie is determined to reclaim her place and relive her teenage dreams.
The movie, while not groundbreaking, offers a mix of humor and nostalgia, making it a fun watch for fans of high school comedies.
