**Plot:**

Senapathi is a Telugu adaptation of the 2017 Tamil film *8 Thottakkal* (Eight Bullets), written and directed by Sri Ganesh. The original film was loosely inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s *Stray Dog* (1949). What sets this crime drama apart are the backstories of the cop, Krishna (Naresh Agasthya), and the antagonist, Krishna Murthy (Rajendra Prasad), along with the smaller stories of other characters entangled in the conflict. The technical team and Shravan Bharadwaj’s background score add to the film’s gritty and suspenseful atmosphere as it explores Hyderabad’s complex crime network.
The opening scenes introduce Krishna, a young man framed by his employer and a corrupt officer for a murder he didn’t commit. Sent to a juvenile home, he is inspired by the warden, who encourages him to rise above bitterness and pursue a career in law enforcement. These black-and-white sequences establish Krishna’s character and evoke empathy when his eight-bullet Bruni pistol goes missing.
In contrast, Krishna Murthy represents an older individual worn down by a flawed system, pushed to his limits. His character defies simple labels of good or evil, adding depth to the narrative. Introduced later in the story, Krishna Murthy’s presence raises questions about morality and justice as the police struggle to track the missing pistol in the hands of an ordinary citizen.
