**Storyline:**
After a young woman is brutally attacked in their seaside town, a security expert and his family become entangled in a web of secrets and lies. *Security* is a gripping Italian thriller on Netflix. The story unfolds in an affluent neighborhood where security cameras are everywhere, but they don’t guarantee safety. Instead, they’re primarily used to protect property, especially since the homeowners are often absent, particularly during winter.
The plot centers on a girl who is severely beaten, with much of the incident captured on camera. Someone is quickly blamed, but something feels off—and, of course, it is. Like most mysteries, *Security* gradually reveals its story as the characters are introduced. Initially, I was concerned that the film’s near two-hour runtime might feel slow or drawn out. However, the complex and flawed characters kept the story engaging.
No one in the film is entirely innocent, though some bear more blame than others. The adults, in particular, are culpable for much of what happens, though they’re unwilling to admit it, often shifting the blame onto teenagers.
The security cameras play a crucial role in the storyline, adding an element reminiscent of *13 Cameras*. Constant surveillance of private lives is easily abused, and this film takes an unexpected approach to that theme. *Security* is directed by British director Peter Chelsom (*The Space Between Us*), who co-wrote the screenplay with Tinker Lindsay and Michele Pellegrini. The movie is based on a novel by Stephen Amidon (*Human Capital*), with Amina Grenci credited for the adaptation.
The straightforward storytelling, combined with occasional flashbacks via security footage, worked well for me. The film maintains a chronological flow, and the compelling characters, brought to life by a talented cast, kept the narrative sharp and engaging.
