**Storyline:**
David Kim resides in San Jose, California, with his daughter Margot. His wife, Pamela, passed away from lymphoma before Margot started high school. One day, David is unable to reach Margot. Assuming she’s at her piano lesson, he contacts the instructor, only to learn that Margot canceled her lessons six months earlier and had been pocketing the money, transferring it to a now-deleted Venmo account. Concerned, David reports her disappearance to the police, and Detective Rosemary Vick is assigned to the case.
Through Margot’s accounts, David discovers she had become isolated since her mother’s death. Vick reveals that Margot created a fake ID and was seen on traffic cameras outside the city, suggesting she may have run away. Skeptical, David uncovers that Margot had been using a streaming site and befriended a user named “fish_n_chips.” Vick confirms the user’s innocence, as she was in Pittsburgh during Margot’s disappearance.
Exploring Margot’s Tumblr, David finds she frequently visited Barbosa Lake near the highway where she was last seen. At the lake, he discovers her Pokémon keychain on the ground. Police locate her car submerged in the water, but her body is missing. Inside the car is an envelope containing the piano lesson money.
After confronting a boy who claimed to know Margot’s whereabouts, David is barred from participating in the investigation. Determined, he visits a site with crime scene photos and spots his brother Peter’s jacket in the images. David finds text messages between Margot and Peter hinting at a possible inappropriate relationship. Peter admits they were only confiding in each other and accuses David of failing to notice Margot’s depression.
Later, Vick informs David that Randy Cartoff, an ex-convict, confessed to raping and killing Margot before taking his own life.
