Storyline:
Mystery Incorporated investigates a series of thefts committed by the ghost of Puppetto the Puppeteer and his puppet. As they attempt to capture the ghost, Batman steps in, advising them to leave the case to the professionals. However, Fred successfully apprehends Puppetto and the puppet. Mystery Inc. soon uncovers their true identities as Martian Manhunter and Detective Chimp. Batman, Manhunter, and Detective Chimp reveal that the Puppetto mystery was an initiation test for Mystery Inc. to join the Mystery Analysts of Gotham, which they accept. Unbeknownst to them, a mysterious red-cloaked figure is watching their every move.
A week later, Batman foils a gold heist orchestrated by Riddler, Catwoman, and Killer Croc, with assistance from The Question and Aquaman. Aquaman expresses interest in joining the Analysts but is turned down for lacking detective skills. Mystery Inc. arrives at the Analysts’ headquarters, where they meet The Question, Black Canary, and Plastic Man, along with the persistent Aquaman. The group is tasked with leading the Analysts’ next investigation. When an alarm sounds from Gotham Chemical Storage, the Analysts rush to the scene and discover that several vials of a radioactive isotope have been stolen. The red-cloaked figure emerges, revealing himself as the Crimson Cloak, and vows revenge on Batman and Gotham for turning him into a ghost. He sets the storage facility ablaze, but the Analysts escape the explosion thanks to Plastic Man’s quick thinking.
While the Analysts work to control the fire, Batman sends Mystery Inc. to a diner to regroup. Believing the case to be linked to the Crimson Cloak, Batman shares his only unsolved mystery: during his early days of crime-fighting, he tried to stop Professor Milo from experimenting with an unstable teleporter, but a vortex tragically killed Milo’s assistant, Leo Scarlett. Batman and Mystery Inc. deduce that the likely suspects behind the Crimson Cloak are either Sam Scarlett, Leo’s father, or Riddler, whom Daphne identifies as Milo’s second assistant.
