**Storyline:**
Police informant Michael Marks wakes up in a room with a spike-filled mask locked around his neck. He has one minute to cut into his eye to retrieve the key but fails, resulting in his death when the mask closes. At the scene, Detective Allison Kerry discovers a message for her former partner, Detective Eric Matthews, and involves him in the investigation. Matthews, along with Kerry and Officer Daniel Rigg, leads a SWAT team to the factory connected to the lock used in Michael’s trap. They capture John Kramer, the infamous Jigsaw Killer, who reveals live footage of eight people trapped in a house, including Amanda Young, his only known survivor, and Matthews’ son, Daniel. The other victims are Xavier, Jonas, Gus, Laura, Addison, and Obi. A deadly nerve agent will kill them all within two hours, but John assures Matthews that following the rules of the game will reunite him with his son.
As the tech team works to trace the video signal, John shares his backstory with Matthews, explaining that his transformation into Jigsaw began after a failed suicide attempt following his cancer diagnosis. This experience gave him a new appreciation for life, and his games aim to instill the same in his victims.
Inside the house, the group discovers a microcassette recorder informing them that antidotes are hidden throughout the premises. One antidote is in a safe, with a cryptic clue provided on the tape. Xavier ignores a warning note and uses the supplied key to open a door, triggering a gun that kills Gus. While searching the house, they find a basement where Obi, who assisted in their abduction, dies while attempting to retrieve antidotes from a furnace trap.
In another room, Xavier is tasked with digging through a pit of syringes to retrieve a key within two minutes. Instead, he forces Amanda into the pit, and she successfully retrieves the key. However, Xavier fails to unlock the door in time, leading to dire consequences.
