Originally, Ranjith had planned a biopic on Birsa Munda, but he shifted focus to this project, initially considering Suriya for the lead role. Due to scheduling conflicts, Arya was ultimately cast. Production faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming, initially set for early 2020, began in September 2020 and concluded in December 2020, spanning four months in North Chennai.
The technical team includes music director Santhosh Narayanan, cinematographer Murali G., and editor Selva R. K. Due to pandemic-related cinema closures, the film opted for a direct-to-digital release, with Amazon Prime Video acquiring the streaming rights. Sarpatta Parambarai premiered on the platform on July 22, 2021, aligning with Prime Day celebrations.
Principal photography was postponed to ensure the actors underwent rigorous training to achieve their characters’ physical demands. The shoot was further delayed by India’s COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020.
