The film tells a love story spanning three generations, beginning in 1947 and continuing until 2020. John Abraham and Aditi Rao Hydari portray Arjun Kapoor’s grandparents in the 1947 timeline. The story follows Amreek Singh, an LA-based character played by Arjun Kapoor, whose 90-year-old grandmother, Sardar Rupinder Kaur (Neena Gupta), expresses a longing to revisit the house she built with her late husband Gursher Singh in Lahore, Pakistan.
After the Partition of India in 1947, Gursher was tragically killed, and Sardar escaped to Amritsar with her infant son. Despite rebuilding her life and remarrying, the pain of losing her first love and her home has stayed with her for over seven decades. Unable to travel to Pakistan due to circumstances, Amreek takes it upon himself to fulfill his grandmother’s wish by bringing her ancestral house to her.
The film, which released on Netflix on May 18, 2021, explores themes of love, loss, and the lengths one goes to honor family bonds.
