Description: Sardar is a 2022 Indian Tamil-language spy action film written and directed by P. S. Mithran, produced by S. Lakshman Kumar under Prince Pictures. The film features Karthi in a dual role, alongside Raashii Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan, Laila, Chunky Panday, Rithvik, Munishkanth, Yugi Sethu, Avinash, and Balaji Sakthivel in key roles. The music is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar, with cinematography by George C. Williams and editing by Ruben. The film marks Chunky Panday’s debut in Tamil cinema and Laila’s return after 16 years.
The story follows Vijay Prakash, a fame-seeking Inspector eager to clear his family’s name. His father, Chandra Bose, a former spy, was framed as a traitor, leading to his family’s disgrace. Raised by his uncle, Paavadaisaami, Vijay aspires to undo the damage caused by his father’s tarnished reputation. His love interest, Shalini, a lawyer, initially disapproves of his social media obsession but eventually understands his motivations. Vijay is assigned to capture a mastermind who stole a classified file containing sensitive information about RAW agents. During his investigation, he discovers that a social activist named Sameera Thomas is behind the theft.
Announced in November 2020, filming began in April 2021 but faced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Shooting took place in Chennai, Mumbai, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, wrapping up in June 2022. Post-production concluded by August 2022, and the film was released theatrically on October 21, 2022, just before Diwali. Sardar received critical acclaim and achieved commercial success, grossing over ₹100 crore globally. A sequel is currently in development.
