Description: Sandakozhi 2, released in 2018, continues the story ten years after the events of its prequel, Sandakozhi. The plot revolves around the villagers of the eight-village circle in the Theni district, who plan to organize their annual grand temple festival after an eight-year hiatus. Durai Ayya, the respected Grand Chieftain of the eight villages, ensures the festival proceeds smoothly, anticipating potential trouble from Pechankarasi (Pechi) and her brothers. Pechi’s family, distant relatives of Durai, holds the chieftain position in one of the villages.
The story flashes back eight years to the previous grand festival, where Pechi’s husband mistakenly perceived an accident as an insult by a lower-caste villager and killed him. In retaliation, the villager’s family killed Pechi’s husband in front of her. Seeking revenge, Pechi vowed to eliminate all males from the murderer’s clan. All were killed except for Anbu, an 18-year-old boy accidentally saved by Durai. Pechi patiently waits for the next festival to kill Anbu, while Durai’s men protect him and fund his education.
Balakumaran (Balu), Durai’s only son, returns from the USA after seven years and becomes aware of the village’s tensions. Pechi attempts to kill Anbu during the temple festival, but Balu repeatedly saves him. Meanwhile, Balu develops feelings for Sembaruthi, whose actions remind him of his late ex-lover, Hema, who died tragically before their wedding. Despite his regrets, Balu falls for Sembaruthi, who reciprocates his feelings. Durai approves of their relationship but communicates this directly to Sembaruthi.
As per Durai’s wishes, Anbu succeeds in his UPSC attempt. Durai and Anbu travel to Anbu’s village to share the news but are ambushed by Pechi’s men. Durai is accidentally stabbed in the neck during the attack. Balu rushes to save his father, who receives covert treatment at home. Durai urges Balu to keep the incident hidden from the villagers to prevent conflicts and ensure the temple festival’s success. Balu promises his comatose father to protect Anbu and ensure the festival concludes peacefully.
