Description: The story of *Sanam Re* begins just before the start of a new year. Akash, living a mundane life in Mumbai while working for a private company, learns that his grandfather’s health has deteriorated. He returns to his hometown, Tanakpur, where he makes arrangements to sell his grandfather’s photography studio. Visiting the studio one last time, Akash is overcome with nostalgia, triggering a flashback to his childhood.
As a six-year-old, Akash lived with his parents and grandfather, a renowned photographer. His grandfather predicted that Akash would fall in love with a girl living 500 steps away from their studio. However, their love would be eternal, yet they would never live together. When Akash took those steps, he found a girl much older than him, leaving him disappointed. Years later, in high school, Akash fell in love with Shruti. However, he abruptly left her to pursue higher studies in Mumbai, leaving Shruti heartbroken by his selfishness.
In the present, Akash attempts to reconnect with Shruti but fails. Meanwhile, he is fired from his job, only to be given a chance to save it by securing a major contract for his company. To do so, he travels to Canada to meet Mrs. Pablo, the estranged wife of his company’s investor. At a yoga camp, Akash befriends Mrs. Pablo, who reveals her real name is Akansha. To his surprise, Shruti is also at the camp, though she appears carefree and doesn’t recognize him.
While pretending to win Akansha’s favor to secure the contract, Akash and Shruti rekindle their love during a camp activity. They spend a night together, reviving their lost connection. However, it is revealed that Akansha is the same girl Akash met as a child. Despite their renewed bond, Shruti leaves at the end of the camp, reiterating that they cannot be together, leaving Akash heartbroken once again.
