Description: “Salute” is a 2022 Indian Malayalam-language crime thriller film directed by Rosshan Andrrews and written by Bobby-Sanjay. It stars Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role as a police officer. Produced by Salmaan under his banner Wayfarer Films, the movie features cinematography by Aslam K. Purayil and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. Initially, Santhosh Narayanan was signed on to compose the background score but was later replaced by Jakes Bejoy.
Originally scheduled for a theatrical release during Pongal in January 2022, the film was indefinitely postponed due to the surge in Omicron cases in India. Eventually, it was decided to skip the theatrical release and premiere directly on SonyLIV. The film debuted on March 17, 2022.
The story revolves around Aravind Karunakaran (Dulquer Salmaan), a voluntarily retired sub-inspector in the Kerala Police, who is haunted by an unsolved murder case he investigated during his service. Determined to solve the long-standing cold case, Karunakaran gathers new clues and evidence to crack it.
SonyLIV also announced the release of another Malayalam film, “Puzhu,” featuring the father-son duo Mammootty and Dulquer Salmaan. While “Salute” is a grounded procedural drama starring Salmaan as a cop seeking redemption, “Puzhu” is an intense family thriller with Mammootty portraying a morally ambiguous character. Both films mark significant releases for the platform, showcasing diverse narratives.
Directed by Rosshan Andrrews, “Salute” introduces Dulquer Salmaan’s collaboration with the director and writer-duo Bobby-Sanjay. It also marks the Malayalam debut of Bollywood actress Diana Penty and features Manoj K. Jayan in a pivotal role. Additionally, Dulquer Salmaan produced Mammootty’s “Puzhu” under his banner alongside S George’s Cyn Cyl Celluloid. “Puzhu,” directed by Ratheena PT, stars Parvathy Thiruvothu in the lead role.
