### Storyline:
A nurse named Katie fails to save a patient’s life despite her attempts at CPR. Over time, she transforms into a devout Roman Catholic and adopts the name Maud. She begins working as a private palliative care nurse in a seaside town in England, tasked with caring for Amanda, a terminally ill dancer and choreographer suffering from stage four lymphoma. Amanda, confined to a wheelchair, is bitter about her condition and confesses her fear of the oblivion that death brings.
Maud becomes convinced that God has chosen her to save Amanda’s soul. During their time together, Maud shares her experiences of feeling God’s presence, which Amanda also seems to sense during their prayers. However, tensions arise when Maud grows suspicious of Amanda’s companion, Carol, who regularly visits and is paid for her services.
One evening, Maud encounters Joy, a former colleague who offers her support. Maud confronts Carol, urging her to stay away from Amanda, believing she endangers Amanda’s soul. Though Carol agrees, she later attends Amanda’s birthday party, where Amanda publicly mocks Maud’s efforts to save her soul. In a moment of anger, Maud strikes Amanda and is fired from her position.
Devastated by what she perceives as God’s rejection, Maud seeks companionship at a pub but is largely ignored. She ends up going home with a man, during which she experiences traumatic flashbacks of her failed CPR attempt. When she tries to stop, the man rapes her and cruelly reminds her of her past.
“Saint Maud” is a gripping exploration of faith, despair, and the human condition.
