Description: The film “Saina” (2021) tells the inspiring story of the rise of a legendary badminton player. Saina Nehwal, portrayed by Parineeti Chopra, is a young girl who moves from Hisar, Haryana, to Hyderabad. Her mother, Usha Rani (played by Meghna Malik), a former district-level badminton player, recognizes Saina’s potential and decides to enroll her in badminton training. Despite the training center being 25 kilometers away, Usha is determined to see her daughter excel in the sport.
At the stadium, Saina is initially denied admission due to a full batch, but her impressive skills earn her a spot. With her coach’s guidance and her mother’s unwavering support, Saina’s game improves rapidly. Usha convinces the coach to let Saina participate in district-level tournaments, where she surprises everyone by emerging victorious. Eventually, Saina earns a place on the Indian national team.
However, her journey faces a major setback when Usha is involved in a serious road accident just before Saina’s overseas match. Despite the emotional turmoil, Saina continues her training and wins the match in Prague. She later learns that her mother is out of danger. As Saina advances in her career, her mentor suggests she train under a more experienced coach. She joins Rajan Academy, led by the strict and principled Sarvadhamaan Rajan (Manav Kaul), a former celebrated tennis player.
Rajan emphasizes discipline and dedication, urging his students to prioritize the purity of the sport over commercial endorsements. Saina follows his rigorous training regimen, even adopting a strict diet on his advice. Her journey under Rajan’s guidance marks a new chapter in her quest to become a top badminton player.
