Description: The carefree childhood of 10-year-old Gopal takes a turn when his father has an accident, leaving his mother struggling to provide for him and his younger brother, Chottu. To help his family, Gopal starts finding ways to earn money, taking on odd jobs like cleaning wells and selling fruits in the village market. With some help from Chottu, Gopal begins to see himself as the family’s breadwinner.
Meanwhile, a grand Janmashtami feast is being organized in a Brahmin household, featuring a special pulao dish. Gopal plans to make money by selling palmyras for the feast, while Chottu dreams of tasting the pulao, something he’s never experienced before. However, their hopes are dashed when they learn they are not invited to the feast, deeply disappointing Chottu.
The film, shot over three seasons in rural Bengal, captures the essence of the region’s changing landscapes. Filming locations included villages near Bolpur in Birbhum district and Piyali in South 24 Parganas. Director Manas selected fresh faces from rural West Bengal schools for the lead roles, avoiding urban actors to maintain authenticity. He personally groomed Noor and Aminul, the child actors, at his home for months. The entire team, mostly first-time filmmakers, poured their passion and dedication into the project, which became the key to its success.
