Description: “Run Sweetheart Run” is a 2020 American horror film directed by Shana Feste. The screenplay was co-written by Feste, Keith Josef Adkins, and Kellee Terrell. The movie features a cast including Ella Balinska, Pilou Asbæk, Clark Gregg, Aml Ameen, Dayo Okeniyi, Betsy Brandt, and Shohreh Aghdashloo. It premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival and was later released on October 28, 2022, by Amazon Studios via Prime Video.
The story follows Cherie, a timid and hardworking single mother who decides to reenter the dating scene after encouragement from her coworkers. She is excited when her boss sets her up on a blind date with Ethan, who initially appears charming and magnetic. However, Ethan’s true nature soon surfaces, turning the date into a nightmare. As the situation becomes increasingly dangerous, Cherie must fight to escape and survive on the streets of Los Angeles. Along the way, she discovers that Ethan is far more dangerous and connected than she ever imagined.
The film was inspired by director Shana Feste’s own traumatic experiences with a date and sexual assault. Production began in Los Angeles in February 2019, with Jason Blum, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, and Feste serving as producers under their respective banners: Blumhouse Productions, Automatik, and Quiet Girl Productions. Following its Sundance premiere, the movie was set to screen at South by Southwest, but the festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially planned for theatrical release in May 2020, the movie’s launch was delayed due to pandemic restrictions. In May 2020, Amazon Studios acquired the distribution rights and released it on Amazon Prime Video in October 2022.
