Description: Feluda and his team are invited to North Bengal by a wealthy Zamindar, Mahitosh Singha Ray, to solve a puzzle that supposedly leads to buried treasure. However, the situation takes an unexpected turn with a mysterious death and rumors of a man-eating tiger in the nearby jungles. Accompanied by Lalmohon Babu and Topshe, Feluda stays at Mahitosh’s ancestral home near Bhutan.
Shortly after their arrival, Mahitosh’s assistant, Tarit, is found dead in the forest. The police initially believe he was killed by a tiger, but a blood-stained sword near his body raises suspicions. Meanwhile, Mahitosh presents Feluda with a riddle to solve. Using his exceptional intelligence, Feluda deciphers the puzzle, revealing that a treasure chest is hidden 55 hands away from a specific tree resembling an old person’s mouth without teeth, located between two Arjuna trees.
As Feluda and his companions follow the clues, they discover Tarit’s spectacles and torch, suggesting he had solved the riddle earlier and was on his way to the treasure. Eventually, Feluda locates the treasure chest and uncovers the truth.
It is revealed that Mahitosh had injured his hand in a fall from a tree, which Feluda deduced when he noticed Mahitosh’s inability to hold a rifle. All the previous tiger hunts had been carried out by Mahitosh’s friend, Shashanka. On the night of Tarit’s death, Shashanka followed him and, upon encountering a tiger feeding on Tarit’s body, fired his rifle, injuring the tiger. Feluda later finds a piece of skin as evidence of the incident.
