The story follows Shivam “Shiva” Bhardwaj (played by Akshay Kumar), a petty thief in Mumbai. He falls in love with Parvathi “Paro” Bharadwaj from Patna after an unusual encounter. Shiva decides to leave his life of crime for Paro but plans one last big heist with his friend 2G to secure enough money to start anew. During the robbery, he ends up with a trunk containing a young girl named Chinki instead of the expected loot. Chinki mistakes Shiva for her father, and he is forced to care for her while being watched by police officer Vishal Sharma.
Shiva worries that Paro will discover Chinki and leave him. He eventually finds a photo of Chinki’s real father, Vikram Singh Rathod (also played by Akshay Kumar), a fearless police officer who resembles him. Vikram had suffered a severe brain injury while pursuing criminals to save his daughter, leaving his life in danger.
Initially frustrated with Chinki, Shiva breaks her tape recorder containing her late mother’s voice. After learning of her mother’s death, he fixes it and grows close to Chinki. However, Paro sees them together and, believing Shiva has hidden a daughter from her, returns to Patna heartbroken. Meanwhile, criminals targeting Vikram mistake Shiva for him and begin chasing him. Shiva and Chinki flee, eventually encountering the woman from the railway station who warns them to run. The movie climaxes with Shiva surrounded by the goons, leaving his fate uncertain.
