Storyline:
In Verona Beach, the Capulets and Montagues are rival business empires. The hostility between the older generation—Fulgencio and Gloria Capulet, Ted and Caroline Montague—spills over to their younger relatives. A gunfight erupts between the Montagues, led by Romeo’s cousin Benvolio, and the Capulets, led by Juliet’s cousin Tybalt, causing chaos in the city. The Chief of Police, Captain Prince, warns both families that further violence will result in severe consequences.
Benvolio and Romeo discover a Capulet party and decide to attend, especially after learning that Rosaline, whom Romeo loves, will be there. Joined by their friend Mercutio, they head to the Capulet mansion, where Romeo takes ecstasy. Overwhelmed by the drug and the party, Romeo retreats to the restroom. While admiring an aquarium, he spots Juliet on the other side, and the two fall instantly in love, unaware of each other’s family ties. Tybalt notices Romeo and vows to kill him for intruding on his family’s gathering.
After leaving the party, Romeo and Juliet discover their families’ feud but remain undeterred. Romeo sneaks back to see Juliet, and she proposes they marry the following day. Romeo seeks the help of Father Laurence, who agrees to perform the ceremony, hoping it might end the rivalry. The lovers are married the next day, with Juliet’s nurse acting as the messenger.
Later, Tybalt confronts Mercutio and Romeo at the beach. Romeo tries to make peace, but Tybalt attacks him. Mercutio intervenes and fights Tybalt, but when Romeo steps in to stop them, Tybalt fatally wounds Mercutio. Enraged, Romeo pursues and kills Tybalt.
As a result, Captain Prince banishes Romeo from the city, forcing him to hide with Father Laurence. Juliet’s nurse arrives to inform Romeo that Juliet is waiting for him, leaving their fate uncertain.
