Description: After defeating Ivan Drago in Moscow, Rocky faces physical complications from the fight. He returns to the United States with his wife Adrian, brother-in-law Paulie, and trainer Tony “Duke” Evers, where they are welcomed by their son, Robert Jr. At a press conference, promoter George Washington Duke tries to persuade Rocky to fight his boxer, Union Cane, the top-rated challenger, but Rocky refuses.
Upon returning home, Rocky and Adrian discover they are bankrupt due to Paulie being tricked into signing a power of attorney over to Rocky’s accountant, who mismanaged his money on failed real estate deals and neglected to pay taxes for six years. With their mansion mortgaged for $400,000, Rocky’s lawyer advises that they can recover financially with a few more fights. Rocky initially agrees to fight Cane but is urged by Adrian to see a doctor, who diagnoses him with cavum septum pellucidum.
Forced to retire from boxing, Rocky sells his home and belongings to pay off debts, and the family moves back to their old working-class neighborhood in Philadelphia. Visiting the neglected Mighty Mick’s Gym, which was willed to Robert by his late trainer Mickey Goldmill, Rocky decides to reopen the gym and become a trainer.
Rocky and Paulie encounter a young fighter from Oklahoma, Tommy Gunn. Rocky takes on the role of his manager, finding a new sense of purpose. As Tommy rises to become a top contender, Rocky becomes distracted and neglects his son, Robert, who is struggling with bullying at school. After learning to defend himself, Robert falls in with the wrong crowd and grows distant from his family.
