Description: In 1987 Los Angeles, Sherrie Christian, played by Julianne Hough, arrives from Oklahoma with aspirations of becoming a singer. Meanwhile, Drew Boley, portrayed by Diego Boneta, is a barback preparing for another night at The Bourbon Room. When Sherrie’s suitcase is stolen, Drew helps her secure a job as a waitress at the club. The Bourbon Room faces financial troubles due to a tax debt, prompting its owner, Dennis Dupree (Alec Baldwin), and his assistant, Lonny Barnett (Russell Brand), to book Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise), a self-absorbed rock star preparing for his final performance with his band, Arsenal.
Drew shares his own dream of becoming a rock star with Sherrie but admits to struggling with stage fright. Patricia Whitmore (Catherine Zeta-Jones), the conservative wife of the mayor, organizes a protest against the club upon hearing about Stacee’s concert. Amid the chaos, Drew and Sherrie go on their first date at the Hollywood Sign, where Drew reveals he is writing a song for her.
On the night of Arsenal’s final show, Dennis discovers the opening act has canceled. Sherrie convinces him to let Drew’s band, Wolfgang Von Colt, perform instead. Meanwhile, Stacee’s manager arranges an interview with a Rolling Stone reporter, adding to the unfolding drama. The film is a vibrant mix of music, romance, and ambition set against the backdrop of 1980s rock culture.
