**Plot:**
Pirates rescue a castaway named Robinson Crusoe from his island. A scarlet macaw named Mak, who follows him onto the boat, narrates the true story of his adventures to Rufus and Cecil, two curious mice.
The story begins on a small, isolated island in the South Pacific, home to a variety of animals. Mak, along with his friends—an echidna named Epi, a veiled chameleon named Carmello, a Malayan tapir named Rosie, a kingfisher named Kiki, an old goat named Scrubby, and a ground pangolin named Pango—lives a peaceful but monotonous life. Despite the island’s beauty and abundance of food, Mak feels restless and dreams of exploring the world beyond the horizon.
Meanwhile, Robinson Crusoe, an English mapmaker, and his loyal Airedale Terrier, Aynsley, board a ship to seek riches in the New World. During a violent storm, Crusoe and Aynsley are accidentally locked in the ship’s hull alongside two bitter Persian cats, Mal and May. The crew abandons the ship, leaving the group stranded.
As the storm rages, Mak and his friends on the island attempt to rescue Scrubby from a dangerous fall while seeking shelter in a cave. The next morning, Crusoe arrives on the island and begins searching for a way to escape. The island animals, unsure of the newcomers, hide on the beach.
Seeing an opportunity to leave the island, Mak convinces the other animals to stay hidden while he observes the strangers. However, he is soon attacked by Mal and May, who also survived the storm. Aynsley steps in to save Mak, and Crusoe takes the injured bird aboard the shipwreck for recovery. Crusoe names the macaw “Tuesday” after their second day on the island, and Aynsley assures Mak that he and Crusoe are now friends.
