Casting took place between January and April 2021, with filming beginning in Ireland in May 2021.
Matilda the Musical had its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 5, 2022, and was released theatrically in the UK on November 25, 2022, by Sony Pictures Releasing International. In the US, it debuted on December 9, 2022, and became available for streaming on Netflix starting December 25, 2022. The film received positive reviews, with particular acclaim for Emma Thompson’s performance.”
