The story revolves around Richie Rich, the wealthiest boy in the world and the son of billionaire businessman and philanthropist Richard Rich. Despite his immense fortune, Richie lacks friends his own age and finds companionship only in his loyal butler, Herbert Cadbury. During the reopening ceremony of United Tool, Richie attempts to connect with a group of sandlot kids playing baseball, but strict security head Ferguson intervenes and prevents him.
Meanwhile, Lawrence Van Dough, the greedy CFO of Rich Industries, conspires with Ferguson to steal the Rich family’s fortune, believed to be stored in their vault. Van Dough plans to sabotage the family’s plane trip to England by planting a bomb. However, Richie’s parents, Richard and Regina, discover the bomb mid-flight and manage to throw it out, saving themselves but crashing into the ocean.
While Richie initially struggles to befriend the sandlot kids, Cadbury arranges for him to stay in Chicago for a weekend of fun with them. Meanwhile, Van Dough, believing Richie’s parents to be dead, takes control of Rich Corporation and halts their charitable contributions, including the reopening of United Tool. This decision jeopardizes the livelihoods of the sandlot kids’ families, prompting Richie, with Cadbury’s support, to reclaim leadership of the company and restore its philanthropic mission.
